What Sarva Darshan is

Sarva Darshan is the free, general darshan at Tirumala. Anyone can join, and no ticket is needed. Pilgrims wait in the Vaikuntam Queue Complex, a chain of waiting halls called compartments that leads to the temple.

Because it is free and open to all, waiting times can be long. The Tirumala page notes that about 60,000-80,000 pilgrims visit every day.

Cost and free facilities

Darshan is free. TTD also gives annaprasadam (food), milk, tea or coffee and drinking water in the queue at no charge. Milk and tea are served roughly every 3 hours.

A laddu is not included. You buy it at the counter after darshan.

Who can join

Anyone can. Time Slot Sarva Darshan tokens are a different scheme with its own rules. Parents of infants have a separate entry, which is covered in the differently abled and infant darshan guide.

Phones and electronic devices are not allowed during darshan (ETV Bharat, May 2026), so leave them in your room or at a luggage counter.

On the day: the queue and how long it takes

You enter through Vaikuntam Queue Complex II. There is no fixed reporting time, so you can walk in at any hour.

Waiting time varies a lot by date. It was reported at 8-12 hours on 9 October 2026, and about 24 hours at the late May and late June 2026 peaks. Once the compartments are released, the final stretch takes about 2-4 hours. TTD publishes the current waiting time, so check it before you go up.

The queue complex has medical help, toilets, RO drinking water and devotional programmes on CCTV screens.

Re-entry facility

Introduced around May 2026 during the summer rush, the re-entry facility lets you leave the queue and return later. You join the queue, hand in an Aadhaar card at Vaikuntam-II and receive a token. A re-entry pass is collected at the 17th compartment, after which you can leave and come back at the assigned time.

Re-entry is through Gate W-4 next to the museum, and pilgrims should arrive 15-20 minutes before their slot. If you lose the token, there is no re-entry. TTD switches the facility on depending on crowd levels, so it may not always be running.

Best time to go

Mid-week days outside school holidays and festivals are the easiest. Avoid Saturdays, Sundays, May and June, Brahmotsavam and Vaikunta Ekadasi if you can.

Before you join the free queue, check the waiting time that TTD publishes on its channels, keep your phone and electronics in your room or a luggage counter, and keep Aadhaar handy in case the re-entry token is on offer. If you would rather not wait in the general line, the paid Special Entry Darshan is a separate option booked in advance on the official TTD site.

Please confirm before you travel

Reports differ on these points, and TTD can change rules at short notice.

  • Waiting time ranges from 8-12 hours to about 24 hours depending on the date, so check the live status before going.
  • Reports differ on how many compartments fill up, from 5 to 30.
  • The re-entry facility depends on crowd levels and may not always be available.
  • The Tirumala distance of 22-26 km is a commonly cited figure, not verified.
