Beach and backwater tours from Tirupati
Tirupati is inland, but the Coromandel coast is close. Beach and backwater tours from Tirupati by cab usually head east or south along the highways to Chennai, then follow the coast road. These are popular after a Tirumala visit, when families want a relaxing second leg. The road distances below are approximate and vary by map source and route.
Pulicat Lake and Chennai
Pulicat Lake, a large coastal lagoon on the Andhra-Tamil Nadu border, is the nearest water destination, roughly 90 to 100 km from Tirupati (confirm locally, as we could not match sources). It is known for birdlife, including flamingos in the cooler season, and for quiet fishing villages. Chennai is around 135 to 150 km away; Marina Beach is a long city shoreline suited to an evening stop. A Tirupati to Chennai taxi can combine Pulicat in the morning with the Marina in the afternoon.
Mahabalipuram
Mahabalipuram is about 180 to 187 km from Tirupati, roughly 4 to 4.5 hours one way. It is a UNESCO World Heritage site with a seaside Shore Temple, rock-cut caves and a long beach. A one-day round trip is about 380 km, which is tiring, so many travellers prefer to stay overnight (arranged by the traveller). See the Pondicherry, Mahabalipuram and Chennai package for a relaxed two-day plan.
Pondicherry and Kovalam
Pondicherry is roughly 230 to 265 km away depending on the source and route, about 5 to 6 hours one way. It is known for its French-era quarter, a promenade beach and Auroville nearby. Kovalam, the beach village south of Chennai on the same coastal road as Mahabalipuram, suits a stop on the way.
Backwaters: only as a long trip
A sample plan: leave Tirupati early, reach Pulicat by mid-morning, continue to Chennai for lunch and the Marina in the evening, and stay overnight before the Mahabalipuram leg the next day. Sea conditions change, so follow local warnings and lifeguard advice at any beach. Carry sun protection and water, and dress lightly but modestly if you also plan to visit a temple on the coast.
Kerala backwaters at Alleppey or Kumarakom are far from Tirupati, roughly 700 km or more by road (confirm the route). They are a multi-day outstation hire, not a quick break. If you want this, tell us the days and passengers in advance. Houseboat and hotel bookings are handled by you; we provide the vehicle and driver only.
