How the Tirupati to Tirumala taxi trip works

The distance from Tirupati to Tirumala is about 19 km, and the drive takes roughly 45 minutes to an hour. Private cars and taxis go up the Alipiri ghat road, pass the toll and security checkpoint, and drop you near the Tirumala bus stand or as close to your entry point as vehicle rules allow on that day.

A round trip is the most common booking: the driver takes you up, waits at the Tirumala parking area through your darshan — whether that takes three hours or eight — and brings you back to your hotel, the railway station or the airport. The fare below is a full-day local hire, so there is no per-hour anxiety while you stand in the queue.

We provide taxi service only. Darshan tickets, seva tickets and room bookings are arranged by you directly with TTD. If you are new to the ticket types, our Tirumala darshan and seva guides explain Special Entry (₹300) darshan, free Sarva Darshan and the main sevas.

Early morning pickups for Suprabhatam and early darshan slots

Many darshan and seva slots require you to be at Tirumala before sunrise, and Suprabhatam seva ticket holders need to report in the very early hours. We run 24/7, and 3 AM to 4 AM pickups from Tirupati hotels are routine for us — tell us your reporting time on WhatsApp and we plan the pickup backwards from it, with margin for the checkpoint.

Night travel on the ghat road is restricted to certain hours for safety, and timings of the ghat road gates can change. Our drivers go up and down every day and know the current rules, so share your darshan slot when you book and we will confirm the right departure time.

The ghat road and the checkpoint

Two separate one-way ghat roads connect Tirupati and Tirumala — one for going up and one for coming down — so traffic flows in a single direction on each. The roads are well maintained but continuously curving; drivers familiar with the hill make the trip noticeably smoother, especially for elders and anyone prone to motion sickness.

At the Alipiri checkpoint near the start of the climb, vehicles and luggage are security checked. Keep ID handy, avoid carrying restricted items, and expect a short queue on busy days. Our drivers handle the vehicle formalities; you only answer for your own baggage.

One-way drops and combined temple days

If you plan to stay overnight at Tirumala in TTD accommodation, a one-way drop also works — message us on WhatsApp and we quote it based on the day. For the return, you can book a fresh pickup from Tirumala when you are ready.

Pilgrims with a free afternoon often combine the Tirumala trip with Tirumala hilltop sightseeing — Akasa Ganga, Japali Teertham, Silathoranam and the Papavinasanam dam — or with the Tiruchanur Padmavathi temple on the way back, since tradition holds that a Tirumala pilgrimage is completed with a visit to the goddess at Tiruchanur. Both fit easily in the same vehicle day.

Practical tips for the trip

Footwear, mobile phones and cameras are not allowed inside the temple; lockers are available near the entry complexes. Carry your darshan ticket and the ID used for booking.

If you are travelling with elders or small children, mention it when booking — we will suggest the vehicle with the easiest entry and keep the pace gentle on the curves.

On peak days TTD sometimes changes parking and drop points at Tirumala. The driver will drop you at the nearest permitted point and stay reachable on his mobile throughout.
